Latest HP Pavilion dv3000 laptop

Hewlett Packard has introduced an upgrade to its popular 14.1-inch dv2000 entertainment suite, the newest Pavilion dv3000 with metallic silver keyboard and interior. As with all HP’s machines, this one can’t be called an ultra portable: despite it’s screen size of 13.3 inches the laptop is quite heavy and thick. So, if you don’t plan on spending too much time in the fields with this machine, its excellent features can totally make up for a lack of portability.

Compared to the dv2000, a number of modifications and improvements has been introduced in the new model, however some parts are exactly same as in its predecessor. One thing in particular that leaves an impression is the combined USB/eSATA port, in fact HP was one of the first laptop producers to offer this feature. This offers support to both existing USB peripherals and upcoming eSATA ones.

The laptop in its basic configuration starts at $1,800 and comes with a fast 2.5GHz T9300 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, GeForce Go 8400M graphics card with HDMI-out (it’s fast enough for watching HD movies at 1,280 x 800, but don’t expect hardcore gaming support from it), 2GB of RAM, a 160GB disk, a low-light webcam, and a dual-layer DVD burner. The OS is Windows Vista, and, unfortunately, HP hasn’t released the drivers for Windows XP, so downgrading is pretty much impossible.

HP Pavilion dv6500z under $1000

For less than $1000 you can have the HP Pavilion DV6500z, a dual core processor laptop with a 15.4″ display screen. The highest resolution it puts out is 1280×800 and the colors are vibrant. The picture is sharp and smooth but the shiny screen can be a little too reflective. You’ll have to be careful where you setup to use your laptop because there will be times when light or something else in the background will distract you entirely.

The laptop is great for video conferencing because of the webcam and microphone included. The DV6500z keyboard comes with a mouse touchpad and two buttons that proved to have just the right sensitivity. The keyboard is easy to use (lots of room to rest your wrists!). For security, there’s a fingerprint reader you can setup to ensure that only you’re allowed to start and use the laptop. If you’re into music there are 2 Altec Lansing speakers that will provide good sound.

The laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor at 2.0GHz with 4MB L2 cache. There’s 2GB of RAM inside, which should be enough to give you everything you need. HP Compaq 2710p: the convertible notebook

After Lenovo’s successful launch of ThinkPad X60 earlier this year, Hewlett Packard also comes out with its new ultra portable 12.1″ convertible business laptop: HP Compaq 2710p.

The new 2710p tablet is a solid, lightweight and multi-functional device intended primarily for business users. It has a magnesium-alloy chassis that looks like a brushed steel, LED-backlit display that supports 1280×800 px resolution, a keyboard that is surprisingly easy to use and a pop-up LED keyboard that allows for typing in dark places. The processor used on this laptop is a 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, and there’s 2 GB RAM installed.

The only cons of this laptop that I can think of is the absence of an optical drive and the resource-greedy Windows Vista that comes with it. I would recommend downgrading to Windows XP as soon as possible to get the most out of your HP Compaq 2710p tablet.

HP Compaq 2710p Convertible Tablet

HP Compaq 2710p is a smooth, brushed-aluminum design built in lightweight construction. This compact tablet is versatile with impressive battery life but with few downsides to note from some reviews by users.

HP devoted its resources to come up with a convertible tablet which is pen-driven and touchscreen notebook. And as a result, HP Compaq 2710p was introduced to the market more specifically to benefit education and healthcare industries. This convertible tablet weighs 1.7 kg which you can easily carry around. When it comes to the design, H Compaq 2710p has a credible one. It has a pivot at the back and looks like a regular ultraportable and well made. The base of the keyboard is compact. The back of the screen and wrist rest are both sturdy. The keyboard is well structured which allows easy and fast typing. The white LED that comes from the screen helps illuminate the keyboard. It has 12.1 inches, 1,280×800 touchscreen that is practical for most applications. The resolution is more than enough for office tasks but will not suffice when editing images or for applications where color and texture are necessary.

The touchscreen is responsive and it has a stylus which is fastened to the laptop through the included strap. The absence of optical drives and touch pad is among the downsides of the computer unit. Another worry that users have noticed is that the lower left of the wrist rest gets hot which can be uncomfortable sometimes. The battery life of the computer is commendable and its internal storage is reasonable as well. It has a spring-loaded Wi-Fi aerial on the top of the screen which is released by a button. The connection that it provides includes a/b/g wireless and Gigabit Ethernet but no sign of HSPDA which is an added shortcoming.

HP Compaq 2710p offers attractive features and being a convertible tablet makes it more interesting. For educational application and usual tasks, this computer can be your best buddy.
