Mobile kitchen: how to cook food on your laptop
In the age of computerization and mobility, there are millions of people taking advantage of the new technologies. There are already hundreds of jobs that only need a laptop and Internet connection to get things done, such as programmers, FOREX traders, writers, designers or webmasters, and the fact that they can work and make money from anywhere in the world, has been a subject of jealousy for people of other, “less mobile” professions. However, things are changing quickly and it looks like the happy crowd of mobile workers will be soon joined by no one else but COOKS (what a surprise).
Introducing the concept of the mobile kitchen designed for Electrolux by Dragan Trenchevski.

This conceptual wunderwaffle that cooks can take with them everywhere is going to have an induction cooking element and a built-in grater. Not only that, it can also act as a high-tech cutting-board and, obviously, a mobile computer with a touchscreen interface, Bluetooth, wi-fi, webcam and a cooking book loaded on it.
As much as I like the concept of a notebook kitchen, it’s highly unlikely that such a device would work to begin with. There are obvious issues such as overheating of computer components, cleaning (imagine hot oil spitting out from a frying pan going everywhere or pasta water boiling over), condensation of steam on a screen so you won’t be able to see a thing, and power requirements (I doubt it would be possible to squeeze enough power from built-in battery to cook even a simple fried egg). Despite all that, the device looks fabulous and… it never hurts to dream, doesn’t it?

Acer announces plans for Ultrabook
Acer has announced that the company is going to introduce a new significant addition to the Aspire line of laptops this September, the Acer Ultrabook. It is going to be a 13-inch laptop with thickness as low as 13 mm (0.5 inches) and weight as low as 1.3 kg (2.86 lbs). The specifications of the Ultrabook are still not made public, but it is clear that Acer is going to use one of Intel’s mobile processors from Core i line. The battery life is expected to be about 6 hours which is very impressive.
If Acer’s plans come true, their Ultrabook is going to become one of the first ultra-thin notebooks that run on Windows operating system. Many other laptop manufacturers, including ASUS TeK Computers, also expressed interest in producing their own Ultrabooks in the nearest future.

MacBook has ceased to be
It went almost unnoticed that a couple weeks ago Apple decided that MacBook had outlived its life and stopped producing it, leaving the MacBook range only with Air and Pro models. Not only that, it was decided to completely remove optical drives from the MacBook Air and Mini. With the launch of the latest download-only version of OS X operating system, the number of Mac users who need a DVD drive is only going to decrease, and Apple realizes that. Ditching a DVD drive will allow for making lighter ans thinner laptops. There are already laptops on the market, such as Chromebook, that are designed to work for the web only, and Apple is clearly going in that direction. So, if in the future you’re going to play a CD or a DVD on your MacBook Air, then you’ll need an external optical drive.
The Pro is going to retain the DVD drive for some more time, but it is obvious that it won’t last for too long.
