Foleo, Palm’s Compact Portable Computer
After Treo smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs), Palm has introduced a compact portable computer to retain its roots in the high-end handheld device market. This portable device seems to make your dreams swerve into reality by replacing a bulky laptop PC with this computer enabling business travelers manage their e-mail and documents on their way.
Now let me introduce you to some of its features. Known as a “smartphone companion,” the “Foleo” is a 2.5-pound device (half the weight of other existing phones) with a 10-inch screen, full keyboard and built-in wireless technology allowing you to manage data exchanged via phones. Palm assures its strong stand against myriad of rival smartphones such as Blackberry and iPhone.
Company founder Jeff Hawkins expects the unit sales of Foleo — priced at $599 before a $100 rebate beginning this summer — to be smaller than Treo units’ sales at first. The company has not conversed the technology-sharing agreements with those companies.
With Foleo, Palm is making its entry into the embryonic market of open source computing devices, which doesn’t rely on operating system software made by Microsoft or Apple.
