Sony VAIO disassembledThe Sony VAIO TZ line of notebooks has experienced an issue that forced the recall of nearly 440,000 units around the world (it seems like they’re doing pretty well in the laptop market!). Sony has received 15 reports of the computer overheating and one customer reports receiving a minor burn. It seems like a small issue but it becomes a big liability if someone gets hurt and Sony has no interest in being sued so they’ve decided to pull back and request that customers stop using the affected laptops immediately.

The hazard comes from wires near the computer’s hinge that were placed poorly and/or a screw that has come loose. Either way overheating is a possible issue and burns can result. Initially Sony was loathe to issue the recall and even announced that it wasn’t an issue but somewhere along the way legal must have gotten involved and told them they would be liable if they knew about the issue and someone got hurt. The recall allows you to return your computer or take it to a designated location where they will check it, fix it if anything is wrong, and return it to you.

Amazon launched two new Kindle e-readers priced at $139 and $189 late Wednesday, with the cheaper version a Wi-Fi-only e-reader and $10 less than the Wi-Fi-only Nook.
