Intel launches Latest Range Processors

The latest range of Intel processors launched this week and they promise greater power, reduction of power use, slimmer chips, and lower costs. As with any new product launch, the old line will go way down in price so if you’re looking for a bargain now is the time to jump.

You might be looking for the most performance power, in which case you want to go with the new Intel chips. They make use of a 45nm technology, powering its high end processors to performance like you’ve never seen before. You can expect at least 20% better PC performance along with 30% less power usage. It’s a remarkable achievement.

Intel: Cougar Point chipset has a flaw

Intel has announced that a problem has been found in its newest Cougar Point chipset for Sandy Bridge processors which were announced just under a month ago for both mobile and desktop computers. The problem only affects the four 3Gbps SATA ports and results in a high number of errors and, eventually, disconnection of a device. Since this issue requires a silicon fix, all P67 and H67 series motherboards have been recalled. The company has stated that it will start shipping the updated motherboards in late February. The experts estimate that this flaw is going to cost Intel up to $1 billion.

Even though MSI have presented their new laptops based on Intel CULV platform at CeBIT 2009 in Hanover, Germany, their full specifications haven’t been available to public until now. Recently MSI have revealed some new photographs and additional information of their ultra portable MSI X-Slim X320 and X340 notebooks. These models are very similar in design, but different on the hardware side. The X340 is distinguished by the presence of an HDMI-out and 2 USB ports, while the X320 has 3 USB ports. The MSI X-Slim X340 is based on Intel CULV platform (Intel GS45 chipset and Intel Core Solo SU3500 1.4GHz processor), has up to 2GB DDR2 667/800 MHz RAM, and a 2.5-inch SATA 5400rpm hard disk varying in capacity from 250 to 500 Gigabytes.

The display of the notebooks controlling is a 13.4-inch WXGA LCD with a HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and there’s a 1.3 megapixels webcam sitting on the edge of the display. The integrated graphics card is powered by Intel GMA 4500MDH chip. There’s also a built-in memory card reader, b/g/n Wi-Fi, optional 3G modem, WiMAX (optional), Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, HDMI, VGA-out, audio jack, Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports. Weighing only 1.3 kilograms with a 4-cell battery, the notebooks measure 330x224x19.8 mm. MSI confirms that the notebooks will start shipping this May in 3 different colors: white, black and gold. The price tag for the X320 model is going to start at $700.

Latest Cherry Red MSI Wind U100 Mini Notebook

After releasing the Wind U90, the lighter version of its most popular notebook line, MSI decided to turn back to the roots and unveiled a new special edition of MSI Wind U100 notebook available in a variety of different colors. In addition to Imperial Black, Angel White, Loving Pink and Special Love, you can now get the Wind U100 netbook in Cherry Red. It is a rich color that inspires passion, mobility and energy, and the ultra-compact 10-inch netbook that weighs just 1Kg is obviously aimed at young girls.

Speaking of technical specifications of the newcomer, it’s all the same as in traditional MSI Winds U100. The laptop comes with a 160GB hard disk, 5200mAh 6 cell battery, wireless a/b/b connectivity and Bluetooth support for short-range wireless transfers from and to compatible gadgets. Like all the other netbooks, MSI Wind U100 is powered by the energy-efficient 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processing technology. One good piece of news for all the Vista haters out there would be that the laptop comes with Windows XP installed on it (which is actually a reasonable move since it would run terribly slow on Vista).

Medion introduces Akoya Mini E1210 netbook

If you love your computers small and inexpensive, you’re certainly going to like this new stylish netbook, the Akoya Mini E1210. It is the first Medion’s product in the line of cheap netbooks, and it is based on already popular MSI Wind. It’s backed up by a relatively small 80 GB hard disk and 1GB of DDR2 memory which par for the low price segment of this netbook. The system also comes with a memory card reader, two USB ports, VGA-out port, Ethernet connector, webcam and audio sockets. Unlike with MSN Wind, the E1210 does not support Bluetooth, however with Medion 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi incorporated, it certainly offers better wireless connectivity at faster speeds which mobile users are certainly going to like.

The other difference from MSI Wind is that the Akoya Mini E1210 has Windows XP Home pre-installed, along with Corel WordPerfect Office X3. This may explain why it’s priced a little higher than MSI Wind, which translates to about $640 in the US market.

Intel’s Metro laptop: one of the slimmest in the world

Intel has unveiled what is believed to be the world’s thinnest netbook to date: the Metro notebook. It is an ultra-slim and ultra-lightweight laptop which thickness is below 0.7 inches and the weight is less than 2.5 pounds. Designed for mobile users who have to stay online all the time at any location possible, this Core 2 Duo-based machine comes with extensive wireless communications options. You can connect to other computers, peripheral devices and Internet via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WiMax or a built-in 3G modem.

There are also several other exciting features in Intel Metro that can usually be found only in “less mobile” laptops, such as a fingerprint reader and small array microphones with background noise cancelling function. There is also a secondary E-ink display mounted on leather cover of a laptop to provide you with useful data without even the need to open a laptop, and even when the power is cut.

Intel Metro Laptop: News bits

Intel and Ziba Design have just announced a newest Metro Notebook that’s going to be one of the thinnest laptops in the world. Being only 0.7 inches thick, it has a magnesium case weighs around 2.2 pounds making it the lightest laptop in the world too. It hasn’t been decided on a screen size yet (I assume it’s going to have a 14-inch LED display), however it was announced that the laptop will have a secondary e-ink screen featuring SideShow technology. This screen on a back side of a laptop will display important information even when the laptop is in sleep mode or switched off.

Among other exciting features of Intel Metro notebook are: integrated fingerprint reader, ultra-fast SSD drive, built in webcam, noise cancelling microphones and cool backlit keyboard. Intel is going to start shipping the laptop this December, so stay tuned and grab it once it hits the market if you want to make your friends jealous.

The Classmate PC powered by Intel

As a part of the One Laptop Per Child program, Intel Corporation has started shipping small and inexpensive convertible laptops for students from developing countries, the Intel Classmate PC. This ultraportable laptop starts at $225 and has a 7-inch display that acts as a touchscreen, a fast (although small) 2GB SSD drive, a 900 MHz Intel Celeron M CPU, 265MB RAM, and comes with Windows XP and MS Office 2003 preloaded. The laptop is built to withstand any possible abuse it might incur from young users: its semirugged construction with round edges and thick plastic and the absence of moving parts guarantees that the laptop will survive after being accidentally dropped. Another kid-friendly feature of the Intel Classmate PC is the water-resistant keyboard with anti-bacterial coating.

Intel has definitely gone far in making cheap laptops for developing countries and, by now, the Classmate PC is the most popular tablet PC for kids.
