Keyboard for the IPad – to Buy or Not?

Apple has always offered the portable keyboards for the iPad in 2 different versions right from the time it was launched. One is the portable dock keyboard and the other is the trademark Apple wireless keyboard. Although both of these versions will cost you the same amount of money (a good $69), the pros and cons of both these are different.

Portable dock keyboard

This one is smooth to use. A premium Apple product in white is what this is. It offers amazing viewing angles. Typing on it is just a treat. It has essentially been developed by Apple for those have long typing works and are not able to do their typing work on the touch screen Apple iPad. One disadvantage of this yet another amazing Apple product is that it requires a dock which will cost you another $29. Overall, this is a very good product well worth its money.

Apple wireless keyboard

This is your trademark Apple wireless keyboard. It supports your popular shortcuts like the dock keyboard and is also very easy to use. It requires no additional dock as well. Also, many of the people would already be having it with their iMac. One disadvantage is this that placing the iPad properly for using this keyboard is a bit tedious. And so the viewing angles suffer a bit and so does the typing.

Other options

There are many other options available in the market now. Logitech and Kensington are the companies that offers good and quite inexpensive keyboards for the iPads. There are also many more less known firms that are now offering a keyboard for the iPad, however the official Apple versions are still the things to go for as there is nothing better than that.

Mobile projectors for your laptops and iPads

With the growing popularity of tablet computers, smart phones, and compact laptops there’s a greater need for mobile projectors. A handful of years ago this technology was a little behind what people were looking for but now we’re at a place where you have dozens of options for mobile projectors and can easily make a presentation at work from your iPhone, which is pretty amazing if you think about it.

The 3M MP225 Mobile Projector is made for Apple products and hooks right into your iPad or iPhone to display your screen for all to see. It’s a small device that costs around $300 and requires only one cord to work. The controls are simple so it takes literally seconds to get your presentation running. There’s nothing complicated or annoying about any of it.

If you want something seriously high end you can spend more than $2000 on a Sony Mobile Projector. They’re generally wireless and they work really well, but that one is probably going on the corporate spending account or it’s not getting purchased at all.

The Dell M110 mobile projector costs $500 and is small enough to nearly fit in the palm of your hand. It creates vibrant images and can be used wirelessly or with an HDMI cable. Panasonic makes an array of mobile projectors that also offer crystal clear images and work wirelessly. Basically, every major manufacturer is now in the mobile projector business so it’s pretty easy to find what you’re looking for.

Apple’s New Mighty Mouse With Multitouch Interface

The Apple mighty mouse is an excellent product from Apple that is now hitting the stores. It gets in a considerable amount of magnificent features in a very small package. Its 360 degree scroll ball is a delight to use and its four customizable buttons are a great addition. Its left and right side buttons function together. The buttons can be set to open any application on the dashboard, which is a great feature.

One of the niggling features of the Apple Mighty Mouse is the fact that both the side buttons perform the same function and have to be pressed together. Pressing them firmly is also required. We do feel that individual configuration would have been better.

You will find no cursor lags or jumps with this multitouch mouse that uses a 400dpi optical engine. However, the side buttons are not programmable in Windows.

It is most suited to run with Tiger OS. Windows and Mac users who have still not upgraded should give it a miss. The expensive $49 tag is also bit of a low point. The mighty mouse is, however, a beautiful looking product with a smooth surface and a shiny, white-plastic finish like an iPod and other Mac products that gives it an exclusive feel.

Good Points: Attractive, great scroll ball, works flawlessly with windows and mac

Bad points: Side buttons to be squeezed hard, less comfort

Conclusion: The Apple Mighty Mouse is a great product to have for a Tiger user. But for windows and other Mac users, it is advisable to give it a pass.
