Asus EEE-PC and EEE-Box series

We recently picked up an EEE-Box, the Asus mini-PC that we’ll be unboxing in the next few days for a series of posts. We talked with the employees at our local store to see how it was selling at the same time and they had a few interesting things to say.

When we asked how the sales for the mini-PC were going they seemed underwhelmed. “Fine” was the answer and it didn’t seem like the things were flying off the shelves. Nothing really flies off the shelves unless it’s made by …

Sony recalls burning VAIO TZ line of notebooks

The Sony VAIO TZ line of notebooks has experienced an issue that forced the recall of nearly 440,000 units around the world (it seems like they’re doing pretty well in the laptop market!). It seems like a small issue but it becomes a big liability if someone gets hurt and Sony has no interest in being sued so they’ve decided to pull back and request that customers stop using the affected laptops immediately. …

Intel introduces inexpensive dual-core and quad-core chips

Intel Corp has introduced a new inexpensive versions of is Core 2 Quad processor, the Q8200, and a dual-core Celeron 450.

The Q8200 processor is a quad-core chip that runs on 2.33-GHz and only has 4 Megabytes of L2 cache. This has to be the smallest level-2 cache size in Intel’s 45nm Core 2 Quad family, compared to 6 – 12 Mbytes that other Core 2 Quad chips contain, and this will most likely affect the system performance in a negative way. Also the price reduction became possible because of omission …
